1st Annual Friendship-Fest...

The 1st Annual Friendship-Fest was a terrific event this year. The games went well, but the entire weekend was a terrific time for old friends and teammates to get together. All the alumni and coaches camped out at a beautiful camp site on the north side of Lake Mitchell called Lake Arroyo. The camp site has a ton of room for campers as well as a cabin and a pavilion area with a fireplace. Lots of food!

This was the first time that both the DWU Women and Men worked together to host this event and we truly believe that it will continue to grow. It will be a great time for everyone to get together in the future as it was last year.

Thanks to those alumni that were here to celebrate a terrific weekend together.

2007 "DWU Idol" Karaoke Champion Named....

The 2nd Annual "DWU Idol" Men's Soccer Karaoke Contest was, once again, a huge success. In fact, I think this year's show was even more successful than last year and the show is taking on a life of it's own!

Every player, old and new, particpated in the Karaoke Contest. Once again, the first round of the contest was held on the patio of the Scoreboard in downtown Mitchell, SD. Our thanks goes out to Steve and Bonny Culhane who repeatedly go out of their way to make the DWU Men's Soccer Team feel right at home even though so many of us are a long way from our original homes.  We would also like to thank our community judges who always tend to add a great deal of fun to the contest. Thanks so much to Tim Jones of Palace Cleaners, John Dosier of Wild Oak Country Club, Deb Jacobson of Jake's, and Christy Priebe of DWU (Physical Plant).

The championship round of the contest was held on Saturday at Camp Arroyo in Mitchell, SD. What a great place to camp out and hold an avent like the DWU Idol Karoake Championship. We had 8 finalist in the final round...Kyle Cathey, Ryan Perry, James Pulfrey, J.J. Williams, Tom Boe, Eric Olson, Matt Dutt, and Steven Youmans.

After the comments from Simon (Steve "Scuba" Keneally, Paula (Tiffany "FiFi" Miller, and Randy Jackson (Daniel)...Matt Dutt was named the 2007 DWU Idol Champion and will have his name posted on the team karaoke plaque which is posted in the Scoreboard. Congratulations Dutt...it's amazing what a year of practicing your Karaoke will do for you!

Where Did The Summer Go...

It seems like just yesterday when the summer was beginning and I was entering my last blog entry! Twelve Soccer Camps later and traveling through twelve different states later...we begin the season all over again!

It is a very exciting day for me as all the returning players and all the new Tigers begin checking in and work will soon begin as well. There is a buzz on the campus, maybe more so than ever. The word "soccer" is being heard all over the campus and all over the community as there is a ton of excitement over our #3 ranking in the Pre-Season Polls. Entering only our third year of even having a soccer program...it says a lot about the direction we are headed when all the other coaches in the conference rate you in the number three spot.  With that being said...we also do not feel content at being ranked number 3. It is our goal to reach the highest spot and have the highest goals.

This year, the theme of the DWU Soccer Program is "One Goal...Making a Difference." We will be working with the American Cancer Society and the March of Dimes to make our goals make a big difference in other people's lives. We have exciting plans that I will share as things slow down.

We also have a couple of big events coming up soon. Next Wednesday, August 15th we will have our annual "Steak and Beans" Inter-Squad Scrimmage with the 2nd Annual "DWU Idol" Karaoke Contest which will be hosted at the Scoreboard Grill.  The game will be at 2:30pm and "DWU Idol" will begin at 6:30pm.

The Friendship-Fest Alumni Game will be held on August 18th at 2pm for the Men and Noon for the Women.
