It has been said many times...Time flies when you are having fun. For the DWU Soccer Team, I would say that time flies when you are striving to be better today than you were yesterday. For the young men that make up the DWU Men's Soccer Team, they have definitely been striving to better them selves each and every day.
During the past semester, the DWU Men's Soccer Program set up a program to work with children at the local elementary school that is located on the DWU Campus. The program, Breakfast Buddies, is a reading program that partners each soccer player with an elementary school child. Each of these children are students who need a little extra help to develop their reading skills. The DWU players and the elementarty school children have really built a strong bond and it is simply amazing to see.
In addition to the Breakfast Buddies Reading Program, the entire DWU Men's Soccer Team also donated their time to the local American Red Cross. In a four hour course which was conducted on a Saturday afternoon (and it was a beautiful day as far as the weather goes), the entire DWU Men's Soccer Team became certified American Red Cross Disaster Volunteers. By becoming certified, the team will now be called upon in the event of a disaster such as a tornado or fire, etc. The players will also be able to use this certification during the summers while they are home for break and visiting their families.
The community service that these guys continue to volunteer their own personal time for is absolutely amazing and second to none. Great job men! I am very proud of all the work and effort that you continue to put forward. You are truly "Champions of Character".
