This is a very special group of guys that have been staying very busy this season. We have found some success this season and after finishing conference play, our very first year in the GPAC, we have locked up a place in the upcoming Region 3 Tournment. Injuries and suspensions for yellow cards have taken their toll this time of the year and we had a dry spell of two losses due to that. But, we have overcome and ended our conference play with a 8-3-1 record...not bad at all considering that we were chosen in the Pre-Season to finish 12th out of 13 teams.
But even more special than the victories on the field is the success that the guys have demonstrated off of the field through community service. On Saturday, before our game against Midland Lutheran College, all of the players spent their entire morning as volunteers for the Special Olympics Bowling Tournament. The guys showed up at 8:30 in the morning. They didn't wait around to be told what to do...they immediately did what they do best by building relationships and putting smiles on peoples' faces. The kids that were involved in the Special Olympics Tournament felt as if they had been friends with players from the DWU Men's Soccer Team for years. The soccer players made the Special Olympics feel like gold and that is a bigger victory than we will ever experience on the soccer field.
The student-athletes of the Men's Soccer Team are a very special group of young men who continue to make every person's life that they touch very proud...especially their coach! Great job and congratulations guys.
I just wanted to say how awesome all the guys were this weekend at the Special Olympics Tournament. It took alot of heart to help out as much as they did and I am so proud to say they are from DWU and that I personally know them all. Then after a long morning volunteering they have to go out in the freezing cold weather and win an awesome game!!! (yes I sat out there the whole game :)
Great work guys.........
