Our Spring Start...Snow or no snow???
It's 7am and we piled back into the van yet again to start off our spring season with a 7 hour van ride down to Salina, Kansas to get prepared for our practice round at the Salina Elks Country Club in Salina, Kansas. Now...keep in mind that we rarely ever get a practice round and today was just our day to chip and putt around and just see everything for the first time....and to answer my question...NO SNOW!!!!
At first look of the golf course, it does not pose much of a threat for anyone on our team, but it could be tricky if the winds were blowing like they were today. Tomorrow, we get the chance to actually see the golf course and between the traveling five (Tom Hoek, Chris Pritchard, Nick Gates, Tyler Evenson, and myself) and our two coaches (Anderson and Irlbeck) groups and match play events have been organized and sorted out to get started...it should be loads of fun!
From what I can see, the greens are REALLY tiny and they are like turtle backs so our wedge game will have to be pretty tight to score well on this course.
Comments from the players on the course before the practice round...
Tom Hoek says, "Being that it is a private course, it will probably be a pretty nice course, but since it is so early, it's going to be a little rough but it's golf...we just have to go out there and get it done!"
Brett Abbotts says, "The course shouldn't be too difficult, but those always seem to be the ones that come back to bite you in the butt. It's going to be tough with our first time out for the spring, but it's going to be a great chance for us to measure how much our indoor practice has been paying off...I'm ready to get going!"
Coach Irlbeck says, "It appears easy on paper, and it provides scoring opportunities so it will be a true testament of our games!"
None of the other guys wanted to get back to me by the time I posted this...so I wil update it tomorrow after we get the practice round out of the way!
Wish us luck, comments are always appreciated...if they are tasteful!
Good luck guys in your first tournament of the season.
